October 5th we departed the US amidst very mixed emotions about leaving our home, uprooting our children and leaving our extended family whom we love so dearly.
We flew from Boston via Reykjavik to Frankfurt, where our dear friend Julian picked us up from the airport. Tired and worn, we were so grateful to pile our many bags into his van and head for Heidelberg, where his sweet family was waiting for us with hugs and delicious dinner. Funda and Julian, who’s hospitality seems limitless, even offered us their own bed to recover from our jet lag.
We stayed for a long weekend visiting good friends, and I showed Bradley, Morgan and Vivien around the places I loved in Heidelberg during my student days. It was the perfect place to get reacquainted with Germany.
